Tattoos

I’ve always been fascinated by tattoos. I think it is an amazing art form. Tattoo artists draw better in a permanent medium than I ever could with pencil and eraser. If you really think about it… that’s pretty amazing. I’ve been so fascinated with tattoos that I even did a Graphic Design History paper on tattoos in college. Not sure how my teacher let me get away with that one, but somehow I compared tattoo art to Graphic Design History. In my first web class in college, I created a website (in flash) about tattoos. It included history, process, etc.

I have four small tattoos, 3 of them being stars of some sort. I’m also fascinated with the stars and could spend hours out in the middle of nowhere laying on the ground looking up at the stars in a dark night’s sky. The other tattoo is a shamrock, it was my first. I got it right after my 18th birthday. It will always remind me of highschool and my best friend in highschool. She gave me the nickname shamrock. We weren’t allowed to be friends (strict parents) and we came up with nicknames for each other to put on notes we passed in between classes (i bet kids nowadays don’t even know how to properly fold a paper note to discretely pass in the hall).

One of my backup careers (in case the whole designer thing didn’t work out for some reason) was to apprentice in a tattoo shop until I could actually become a tattoo artist. I can’t explain my fascination with them, they are just so… awesome. I love hearing stories behind tattoos. I also love hearing, “I got it just for fun.”  I don’t believe that every tattoo has to have a meaning behind it.

My recent obsession has been white ink tattoos.  I’ve been searching the interwebs for images of pretty white ink tattoos. I’ve also been thinking about my next tattoo and making it a white ink one. There’s just something so different about them. I also love that it’s like they are there, but they don’t scream “hey, look at me, I am a tattoo!”

Anyway… I love tattoos and the art of tattooing.
Future tattoos I plan to get are:
- goldfish on hip or side of stomach
- white ink tattoo of the word “lovely” written on the inside of my left pinky finger
- small silhouette of hummingbird behind my right ear
